Eventually I think most people in animation want to move into boards. I got my start fairly early. Starting in cleanup and quickly got the opportunity to move up to boards (thanks Jerry). I loved it! Taking from both my experience in layout & posing, I knew that in TV, the tighter the board, the easier the posing and layout, the smoother the production.

Here are some samples of boards I did for the 52 mini-scenes. I actually just cut animatics for them rather than presenting them on paper so this is just something I put together from screen grabs of the animatics. Hard to choose my faves, but here are some I wrote as well as boarding.
Paper Man
While on paternity leave, I wanted to work on a few of my own project, including a short. After 6 months of writing, sketching and boarding, here's the rough leica. More details about the process are posted on my main blog.
6Teen and I have a looong history together.Starting as an animator on the first season and ending as the animation director on the last two. With all the highs and lows of working on that show, the most gratifying accomplishments was working on the interstitials shorts. Many created by myself and my crew. Here's one of my original ideas I boarded and cut into a leica for timing and scene planning for the animation crew.

This one got some good laughs at the table when I read it.
A series of three Kin/Kon magic tricks, this one is my favorite.
Just silly, picture Kin/Kon slowly drifting across screen as the cupcakes dissappear
Also one of a series, Corey flicks his pick and bad things happen to poor Mayor Mellow as a result.
Octonauts
My first jump back into the industry after my baby/"Paper Man" short hiatus was a fun show called Octonauts. The characters were cute, there was a lot of action and because it was a 3D show, the camera was able to go wherever I wanted it to (within reason for TV). But all around, a great jump back into, not only animation, but boards, which I had not done professionally for close to 10 years. And I have to say, It was a blast.
Here's a splash of dynamic compositions from my boards.
A sample of the action.

JUICED
Undergrads
I storyboarded on Undergrads shortly before moving to Toronto to work at Nelvana. These would be my last boards before moving into 2D digital animation. I thought the opportunity to be one of a select few working in a brand new medium (at the time) was a better career prospect than competing for board work against a sea of seasoned, connected board artists. Oops... Still, Undergrads was a great way to end it. It was an MTV show with irreverent humour, full of pop culture and movie references. This sequence is a good example of that borrowed from the movie "The Sixth Sense" for the episode called "Traditions"

I did a couple of boards for Steve Schnier's "Freaky Stories". But my favorite was the very last episode of the series entitled "The Lodger". Each segment of the show was done in a different style and this one was in the Tim Burton style, which I jumped at the chance to work on. The end product was one of my favorite boarding experiences ever, it was such a low key production by that point, so I had a lot of freedom on this board. Here are a few pages.
Although the style was very loose, my early layout background worked well for more elaborate shots.
