When I took over as Animation Director for 6teen, Tom McGillis and Teletoon requested some extra animated content that would be used for online purposes, and maybe bonus feature stuff. Some stuff was scripted, some just vague brainstorms, and others were completely up to myself and my assistant to create with the limitation of having no budget, therefore no dialogue. They were so well received that the next season, I was asked to create some more. This time around I had a larger crew and thought I'd try to take the Pixar approach and develop the stories with weekly story meetings, starting at the beginning of the season and then going to animation as the show wrapped up. We completed 3 shorts and 5 logo tags. There was more in development but there was a delay in production that limited our output, so rather than pump out 5, we took our time and made 3 pieces we could be proud of. This would be my first (although uncredited) director position as I was given total control of the shorts we called "the Interstitials" and I have to say I'm damn proud of them. I just hope one day they see the light of day.
This was one of the group efforts with the original concept by Mel Olm. Simple ideas are always the best launching grounds.
This was my baby, A little seed of an idea that developed into a nice short piece. here is my original storyboard for the piece.
